Does OkCupid Notify If You Screenshot?

OkCupid might be a dating app at its core, but it is also a social networking website that helps you find friends. The very premise behind the app is taking matchmaking to a deeper level rather than being based on selfies and interests like many of its peers. With an integrated chat function, however, OkCupid is also an instant messaging app. With every other matchmaking chat app, there is a risk of someone taking a screenshot and you becoming a meme overnight.

This leads to an important question: does OkCupid notify you when that happens?

The Lowdown on OkCupid

As mentioned, OkCupid is, at its core, a dating app that goes deeper beyond the users’ superficial representations. Multiple-choice questions are used to match users with people who share similar views, thoughts, and opinions.

When connected, the users engage in an instant messaging conversation where they get to know each other better. Although there is an emphasis on dating here, people have been known to use this app for finding new friends all around the world. While this is neat and useful, like all dating apps, OkCupid comes with its own detriments and risks.

Screenshot Notifications

To report someone for taking a screenshot of you that you don’t want to spread outside of the platform, you can always report the user who you think might have made the screenshot. In most cases, this user will be banned, but once the screenshot is in their possession, they can spread it all over the internet. If it gets posted on social media, you may report them there and have the photo removed.

However, websites such as Reddit and 4chan are impossible to control and, before everything turns into a forest fire, ruining your online life by turning you into a meme, you may want to stop it in its tracks. Receiving notification about a screenshot that your conversation partner might’ve taken could be of huge use here, allowing you to react more quickly, but also deterring the user to take a screenshot in the first place. Unfortunately, screenshot notifications aren’t a thing with OkCupid.

This means that you’ll have no idea whether or not someone has taken a screenshot of your conversation. As such, you should always exercise caution, avoid giving out sensitive information and material, as well as writing things that may easily backfire.

What Not to Do

Since you won’t receive a notification about someone taking a screenshot in your direct messaging window on OkCupid, don’t expect to receive notification of someone taking a screenshot of your profile either. OkCupid isn’t a private community and people may reshare your profile if they find it inappropriate or easy to ridicule.

Don’t Be Pathetic in the About Me Section

Contrary to popular belief, it is absolutely okay to be vulnerable and even borderline pathetic when talking honestly with someone. Clichés, poetry, and love quotes are perfectly fine and may even come off as cute. But not in the About Me section on OkCupid. Why? Because people will see it and some might take a screenshot of it and –  voila – you are now a meme.

This is the typical high school mentality that’s unfortunately also present on the internet. To avoid going viral all over the internet just because you’re too honest, try to be as laidback and reasonable as possible in your About Me section.

What to Do

Knowing how to properly set up your OkCupid profile is just as important as knowing what to do to avoid becoming a victim of a screenshot meme. Now, setting up a Facebook profile is simple, easy, and fun. Setting up a matchmaking app profile, on the other hand, is much more of an intimidating task. The goal here is to come off as likeable, so here’s what to do to make the most out of your OkCupid profile.

Photo Diversity

OkCupid is a dating app, first and foremost, and photos play a vital role in it. For your OkCupid matches to get to know you better, make sure that you upload a variety of photos. A solo shot is fine, but you need to show the world what you like and what you’re like, not just tell it in your profile description. Add photos where you’re enjoying your favorite hobby. Add some from your travels. Are you a sports fan? Add photos from the game where your favorite team played.

Make sure that the photos look as normal as possible, though. The weirder you look in them, the bigger the chances are of your profile ending up as a viral screenshot. Additionally, caption your photos, as this makes you more approachable.

Grammar

Typos in instant messaging are completely fine. Someone may judge you for accidentally using “then” instead of “than,” but most people will know that you’ve made a typo. When it comes to the About Me section, though, the users viewing your profile expect that you had dedicated some time to polishing it, meaning that typos and spelling errors are definite no-gos. If necessary, use Grammarly. Always keep in mind that the internet loves a screenshot of grammar and spelling errors.

Think Before You Do Anything

The online world is harsh, especially when we’re talking about dating apps. Some people are cruel and will use your need to connect to ridicule you and diminish your ego. Be careful what you type and post on OkCupid and be wary of potential screenshots because the app won’t notify you when someone takes one.https://www.novodasoftware.com/
