GApps Error Code 70 – How to Fix

GApps, meaning Google Applications, is a package of all essential G Suite apps for an Android device. When you flash a custom ROM to your device, these apps require manual installation. If you flashed a custom ROM on your own, there shouldn’t be any trouble flashing GApps, too.

However, in some instances, you might get an ‘Error code 70a.’ Although it isn’t anything serious, this alert means that something is preventing you from getting GApps on your device.

Error 70 is very common while you’re installing GApps, and it happens on most devices. This means that you don’t have enough storage space available on the system partition. Usually, older phones have this problem, but there are a few solutions that may help you. This article will go through them.

Increase System Partition

If you want to flash the full version of GApps, you are going to need a lot more space onhttps://www.novodasoftware.com/ your partition. To do it, you’ll need to perform a complicated method we’ll describe in this section. This method should increase your system’s partition size enough so you can flash a complete package.

You can perform it manually, but it is a process that requires a lot of technical knowledge, and a few missteps could brick your phone for good. This is why it is not recommended that you try it out yourself. Instead, you can use a third-party tool such as Lanchon REPIT.

Lanchon REPIT is a repartition tool for Android. Simply flash a ZIP file in recovery mode to start the repartition. To do so, you should:

  1. Backup all your valuable files since you may experience a data loss.
  2. Run TWRP on your device.
  3. Ensure that the battery is full.
  4. Rename the ZIP file to your desired configuration and partition size. You can find all the necessary configuration codes here under the ‘How to Configure’ section.
  5. Plug the device to a power source.
  6. Flash the ZIP file to the device. You can also find the instructions to sideload instead in the link above.

Do not cancel the script to avoid any potential risks.

If this process seems too complicated for you, there’s a way to bypass the error code by getting a smaller package.

Get the Smaller GApps Package

If you don’t want to increase partitions and risk damaging or bricking your phone, you can flash a smaller version of the GApps package. This version is called Pico and is significantly smaller than the regular GApps package. This should bypass the Error Code 70.

To do this, you should:

  1. Visit the OpenGApps
  2. Choose ‘pico’ from the ‘Variant’ column. With this variant, you’ll get the entire Google Play package and some other Google apps. It’s smaller in size and eats up a lot less RAM when your phone is performing background activities and services. If you need some other Google tools, you can get them via the Play Store.
  3. Choose the platform and version of your Android system. Make sure to double-check this information; otherwise, the process won’t work.

Keep in mind that the ARM platform is compatible with ARMv7 and aramebi. ARM64 matches with Aarch64 and arm64 architecture, while x86 can also be x86abi.

Also, when choosing CyanogenMod for Google apps, make sure to select it for the proper version of your system:

  1. Mod 11 is for Android 4.4
  2. Mod 12 is for Android 5.5
  3. Mod 12.1 is for Android 5.1
  4. Mod 13 goes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow

This is the easiest possible way to deal with the error code 70 when flashing GApps.

Increase System Partition

Big Enough for GApps

Increasing your device’s system partition may be beneficial for regular functioning of your device, so if you know how to do it, you should always opt for that.

On the other hand, installing a smaller version of the GApps package will prevent any risks while giving you the opportunity to manually download all the remaining Google apps later.

So, make sure that you know what you’re doing before experimenting with your phone, and enjoy your custom ROM and your flashed GApps package, regardless of its size.
